Whilst it’s nice to get out sailing, much of the VSPARS development and improvements are carried out in the University of Auckland’s Twisted Flow Wind Tunnel. Here the sail shape can be detected with VSPARS and simultaneously measured in a controlled environment.
Currently a project is underway by two 4th year engineering students who are looking to automate the production of 3D IGES surfaces from the VSPARS output.
Linked to this is an ongoing programme of validation and improvement of the algorithms.
